Week #10 - Sexting

Education start at home so it is important that parents get informed about the problems young people faced every day that can affect their lives and their education. This can be possible if more programs on the radio and TV programs, newspapers and magazine articles are available to parents. If parents have that knowledge, when the child reaches the adolescent years, the parent will be ready to guide and help the student in how to use technology in a safe way. For that reason, I do not believe is the schools responsibility to teach how to use technology in a safe way, however, I do believe that if technology is going to be use in the classroom, that teachers should pay attention on what the student is using and how he or she is using it.  Nevertheless, I think that values, respect and discipline should be taught at home and in the school system.

Week #9 - Fair use

It is unbelievable to see how many laws exist after reading the different articles about copyright.  I think those laws are very important.
Different laws exist to protect the work that will be use in school and in different educational purposes. There are four factors that help the courts define what a fair use is:
·       The purpose of the use
·       The nature of the work
·       The amount of work used in relation to the work as a whole
·       The effect of the use on the market or potential income for the work
All four factors have to be taken into consideration in order to determine if it is fair or not fair use to use specific articles, video types, copies, etc.
I think that this information is necessary as a part of the curriculum on middle and high school.  It should be available to everybody. Unfortunately I heard about it when I started to study my major in industrial design.

Week #8 - Technology Integration Matrix

The activity that I chose is for 3rd grade, and is called Lungs-Individual and Community Choices. It is one to one access and is placed in the intersection of constructive learning and entry level.
In this activity, the teacher teaches the students how our lungs are an important part the human body, and at the same time, the way that lungs can be damaged because of different factors or exposures. According to the teacher in this activity, technology is a very effective tool when creating in a lesson plan. With technology, students can interact, play and research in a very interesting way. For this class, the website brainpop.com was their tool towards learning. This program helps teachers in different subjects such as science, social studies, math, engineering, technology, health, arts and music. This website is very interactive and catchy; it calls the attention of any user. The teacher also used Google to show the students more realistic pictures about the lesson.

This lesson has the following Nets teacher standards:
1.     Facilitate and inspire student learning and creativity
a.     Promote, support and model creative and innovative thinking and inventiveness.
b.     Engage students in exploring real-world issues and solving authentic problems using digital tools and resources.
c.      Promote students reflection using collaborative tools to reveal and clarify students’ conceptual understanding and thinking, planning, and creative processes.
2.     Design and Develop Digital-Age Learning Experience and Assessments
a.     Design or adapt relevant learning experiences that incorporate digital tools and resources to promote student learning and creativity.
b.     Develop technology-enriched learning environments that enable all students to pursue their individual curiosities and become active participants in setting their own educational goals, managing their own learning, and assessing their own progress.
c.      Customize and personalize learning activities to address students' diverse learning styles, working strategies, and abilities using digital tools and resources.
d.      Provide students with multiple and varied formative and summative assessments aligned with content and technology standards and use resulting data to inform learning and teaching.

When I started to do this assignment, and I start to read and check each activity, I was really impress of all the technology tools that we, prospective teachers and the now teachers have to teach students in a fun way. Today there isn’t an excuse to create a boring or a monotony class. There is help for each grade level class which makes this technology tool a great strategy to develop lesson plans. I will continue working and practicing to be better using this technology After everything I learned during class this semester, I could say that I am between adaption and infusion level. I know that the teachers have to be moving forward in order to reach their goals. Today’s society demand innovate teaching, and I am confident that one day I will be fulfilling each demand of this world of technology.

Week 11 - Integrated Lesson Plan

Lesson Plan Title:   Typical Latin American Dish

Topic To Teach: Learning vocabulary in Spanish that is associated with the topics of food and food preparation in connection with technology.

Concept : This lesson plan is authentic and provides a connection for the students with Latin-American culture. This plan has connections with other subjects such as geography, math and biology.  In this way, the students will be able to learn the products to create their own dish recognizing the basic ingredients.

Standards Addressed: Content Area – Foreign Language Learning
National: Communication 1.2
            Connections 3.1
State: 7.1.IL.B.1 Use digital tools to partipate in short conversations and to exchange information related to targeted themes.
General Goal(s):
·         All students will be able to learn and use vocabulary effectively
·         All students will have visual Power Point to help them to see different products and learn about them. The students will be connecting to a student website where they will exchange a conversation about favorite foods with students of a  Latin American country.

Specific Objectives:
·         The students will be able to adequately use the computer, to have connection with students from other country.
·         With this lesson, the students will learn colors, textures, places where the products come from and share their own experiences about food.
·         The students will be able to identify different objects and textures to become aware of the sensitivity of their 5 senses.
·         The students will be able to learn about other cultures and how they prepare they food.
·         The students will be able to effectively use oral and written Spanish to communicate

Required Materials: Power Point, activity paper, Websites, scissors and glue

Anticipatory Set (Lead-In): The lesson will start with the teacher asking the students about their favorite hamburger. The students start to describe the ingredients that they prefer with their hamburgers. This introductory activity will help the teacher to enroll the students in the main activity by getting them to think about all of the components in food preparation.

Procedures: Using the Power Point, the teacher shows the country and products that are used  the country’s typical and traditional dish. At the same time she asks for colors and shapes of the ingredients. Then, the students have to sit to make a half circle. The teacher gives paper bags to the students. They have to introduce their hands without looking inside the bag to guess what is inside and say the texture that they feel. After that, the teacher shows in the Power Point the products that they touched in the prior activity. She explains what the climate is and type of tree where these products come from. Next, the teacher shows in the Power Point different kind of styles of the same typical dish.

Plan for Independent Practice:  In groups of 3 students, the teacher gives each 2 papers. One is of a picture of a plate. The second has all the different ingredients that the students learned about in class. They have to cut out the ingredients that they would like to include in their typical dish, and paste it to their blank plate.

Closure (Reflect Anticipatory Set): After of prior activity, the students have to present their own dish to the class.

Next class: The students will have the opportunity to connect with other students from the original country from which the typical dish was learned. They can talk about different kinds of food and the favorite  typical dishes of each country.

Week # 7 - PodCast in the classroom

One of the ways that I can use podcasting in my
Spanish class is to create some podcasts at the beginning of the semester to
help students with specific and difficult homework. It is possible that many
parents are not bilingual and it will be very difficult for them help their
child with the homework.

Another way to use podcasting is to create an activity with
my own class to make a Podcast of a cultural topic, and post it on the internet
to share with other students of other schools. For this activity, the students
will learn the process to create a PodCast and then create one by them selves; so
the activity will be completely participatory.

The specific skill to apply to 21st century
education programs is to promote creativity and make tough circumstances to
push the students to solve problems. I am sure by creating the activity to
develop a podcast to share with other schools the students will use their
creativity to have a good final product.

Technology of PodCasting

What is PodCasting? PodCasting is a wonderful tool to use in
the 21st Century education program. It helps teachers and students
to be in contact continually no matter where they are. The only important thing
is to have access to any device that allows them to connect online.
There are different ways to create a Podcast. One way that a
lot of people use to see tutorials and instructional videos is to go to YouTube
and search “How to create a Podcast”. Immediately many videos appear that help
you to understand how to create a podcast. I researched some of them but
unfortunately not one of these videos were complete or had full information to
help novice people that are trying to use this kind of technology. For example:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o4rz0jSXvG8&feature=related   this video was created for an English man,
who was speaking so fast and moving the mouse so quickly that it was impossible
stay on track with his instructions.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h4IBSseAJlk&feature=related  this man has been working for many years in PodCasting.
At the beginning, the video is very interesting because he gave a lot of advice
on how to produce podcasting but not an easy way to make a PodCast for people
with no prior knowledge

I checked some others videos but none help beginners to
create a podcast. It is possible that a good PodCast is not created yet to help
people to create PodCast.

To create my own Podcast, I followed the instructions exactly
that Professor Bigsby sent in the weekly assignment for week #5. It really was
very fun to make, even though I had some little problems embedding it in to the
Blogger.

In my opinion the strengths to create a Podcast and use this
tool with the students, is to help them to be updated on everything that occurs
in class. For example, if the student gets sick and has to miss class, the
teacher can help the student by sending him a podcast with a recap of the
activities that were done in class. Another goo activity according to the
article that I read, is to create a PodCast with the students to share with the
community.

The weakness of this technology, if it is not organized
enough, it that won’t be understandable and all the work to create it will be a
waste of time.

Second, to be connected with this type of technology, it requires
at least a basic computer. It could create an uncomfortable situation between
students who have a computer and do not. If not everybody has access to the
technology at home, it will be difficult to create a good connection this way.

Back to School - Technology

To create presentations like this, it will be a wonderful experience for teachers and students to have a better communication between them.
It is very interesting to see, that in this kind of blog, we can post any type of help, like power point presentation’s, links, and possible videos to have faster information in the moment that we need it.
In my Spanish and art classes, I will have the perfect tool, to help my students to understand different cultures in more active and fun way.

Week 3

TASK #1
Although, technology is an important resource to use in class, I am sure that in my class, I will apply technology as a support of research and intercommunication with other cultures as is shown in the article “Four Takes on Technology”, and for many projects more. As a future second language teacher, is very important for me, that my students have a fluent conversation in Spanish in the real world. This goal can be reached by having interactive activities during class, with the help of graphics, physical movements and discussion among students.
The technology, in this case, the computer, DVD’s and Cd’s, can be use as support for the class. The success technology can reach, depends in the interest that each student takes in order to learn and progress in class.
In the video “Integration of 21st Century Skills: Hydrology”, a perfect example is shown. The video presents the ways a class can be arranged. In that scenario, we can see how a teacher uses technology, but at the same time, he makes activities where the students have to work in teams to solve problems and create new solutions.
Also, I would like to teach in a district where I could find good interrelationships between the directors, administrative and teachers, because it helps, when you have these professional alliances, to teach and apply different resources to the class.
In my opinion, technology is important as long as it is used in balance. It is important, to combine technology, while keeping social interactions among the students.

TASK #2

Strand           C. Communication and Collaboration

As a prospective Spanish and art teacher for levels K-12, this strand (P), can be used in any age. For example, with kids between ages 6 to 10.  If I want to teach a song, the lyrics and beats are very attractive to learners. (See the song’s video).
Other example is if I would like to do a field trip with students of high school. I will place the students that have an understanding of Latin-American culture, with those that have not. The interaction between the two groups will foster a better understanding and a better experience on the field trip. I will prepare activities using audios, movies and CD’s, to give them enough information about culture, human behavior, and much more. I would want to include field trips, because, for personal experience I learned so much by going to many, and at the same time I enjoyed so much, that I believe these activities will create a comfort zone for the students.

MY EXPERIENCE WITH TECHNOLOGY

I have to confess, that technology is not my strong point. In my country, years ago, it was not an important class and for this reason, I never had an interest in it. I know that technology is very important to execute any job right now. To give a simple example, only to pump gas, the sales person has to know how to use the gas pump machine, and if the customer pays with credit card, the sales person needs to know, how to do the transaction.
I graduated with two Bachelors in Interior Design and Industrial Design, when I graduated in 2005; I found a job faster in Interior Design that in Industrial design. With Interior Design, I had to work with AutoCAD program. This program is wonderful and I work on it, all the time. But, if right now, I would like to find a job as industrial designer, it could be difficult because the companies ask for so many programs that I feel in a prehistoric time, even though I know how to use the computer and three programs of design more, still it is not enough.
I support the idea that technology has to be integrated in the curriculum program from K-12, so later on, the children won’t have the problem of making mistakes with technology.
I am very optimistic with this class, because I would like to know how to integrate technology in my classes and how I can be more productive in the school. The article Four Takes on Technology, really open my expectations to go forward in this class and learn as much as I can. In the web site to integrate groups of students around the world in the article Friends & Flags, the students have the opportunity to learn other cultures and languages with interactive activities. I want my future students to have a good experience in my classes learning Spanish and Arts with technology as a principal source for them.
